Piper-Heidsieck 1990 Cuvée Rare Réservée Brut (Champagne)

It's unanimously excellent votes from the tasting panel are well-deserved. Its nose is a sexy yet comforting blend of vanilla, apple, bread, butter and light brown sugar. The palate is at once fresh (one reviewer detected celery-like notes) and "like a good dessert" with note of almond paste and tiramisu against a fruity backdrop. Full in the mouth, it winds up with a long, throat-coating herb and lime, but slightly sweet finish.
