Pipers Brook Vineyard Estate 2017 Pinot Noir (Tasmania)

This wine is showing quite reductively at the moment, its raspberry and slightly smoky, meaty tones suppressed by rubbery and oniony characters. These do blow off with time in glass, revealing more subtle floral and wild spring herbal notes, but the fruit feels masked again on the palate, even veering into sour territory. Tannins, however, are savory and the acidity retains some freshness. A bitterness creeps in on the finish. Christina Pickard
