Poderi Marini 2016 Elaphe Red (Terre di Cosenza)

Nearly opaque in the glass, this rich blend of Aglianico and Magliocco offers dense aromas of iodine, crushed mussel shells and blackberry. It's rich and full on the palate, filled out by thick-skinned black fruit tones that skirt the line between jammy and fresh. While the tannins are copious, there's a decent polish to them, lending ample support alongside fresh acidity. It ends slightly hot, but not overwhelmingly so. Alexander Peartree
