Ponzi 2018 Avellana Vineyard Chardonnay (Chehalem Mountains)

Editors' Choice

The vineyard sits in the newly designated Laurelwood District AVA, a subset of the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Given 20 months in neutral oak prior to bottling, it's in fine drinking condition. Toasty, lightly buttery fruit flavors of ripe apple, peach and pineapple are accented with a lick of butterscotch. The balance is perfect and with such harmonious components this wine could be a cellar sleeper. That said, now through 2026 looks to be the optimal drinking window. Paul Gregutt
