This is an Irish-inspired American whiskey, made from a 150-year-old mash bill sourced by cocktail historian David Wondrich and re-created by Ransom founder Tad Seestedt. The base is barley, rye and oats, which translates into a relatively lean, herbaceous whiskey. Look for a bright topaz hue and grassy, oaky aromas. The palate echoes that oaky note, layering hints of burnt orange peel, sarsaparilla and chamomile. The finish is long and drying, finishing with a cinnamon bark and vanilla exhale. Kara Newman
