Raymond 2008 District Collection Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

New French oak dominates this wine, in the form of caramel and buttered cinnamon toast. Those are delicious flavors, of course, but they have little to do with the wine itself, which seems just fine, suggesting sour red cherries, red currants and licorice. Maybe it's just going through an awkward phase, or maybe it's the alcohol, which officially clocks in at 16% by volume, emphasizing the sweetness.
