Red Sky 2007 Merlot (Washington)

Conner Lee vineyard was the fruit source, and new oak barrels (from Minnesota) were used during the aging of the wine. It is already softening and maturing, the fruit showing secondary characteristics of baked fig and plum. The oak is sharply defined, but coming into balance. The midpalate extends with coffee, licorice and smoke, then turns a bit alcoholic as it fades. Paul Gregutt
