RedHeads 2016 Coco Rôtie Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

Editors' Choice

The amusing play on words is apt here. This wine is clearly a homage to the famed Northern Rhône region, with extra helpings of Aussie sunshine. It bursts with baking spices, tangy red currant, rhubarb, raspberry, dried herbs, soy sauce and mocha. There are florals and warm stone tones there, too. Full-bodied but not heavy or rich, there's a strong savory streak on the palate that compliments the tangy fruit and fine-grained tannins. Drink now–2023. Christina Pickard
