Hence the play on words, this is aiming to nod toward the Rhône stylistically, which it partially achieves in its emphasis on Christmas spice and earthy characters rather than ultraripe fruit. It's still packs in the South Aussie sunshine, though: mocha, plum and cherry with an underbelly of mint, bay leaf and clove. Rich and full bodied but with restraint, the palate is lined with granular, spice-filled tannins. It's a little woody on the finish, but overall is an appealing winter warmer wine. Christina Pickard
