Consistently delightful and classically expressive, the Saar Scharzhofberger never fails to encapsulate those smoky, salty, gloriously slate-struck complexities that scream Mosel kabinett. Its unabashedly ripe in grapefruit and lemon this vintage but dazzling in acidity and edged by just a frill of sweetness that lingers on the finish. Light bodied yet piercing, it's a favorite young but improves for at least a decade and holds longer still. Anna Lee C. Iijima
