Rex Hill 2001 Carabella Vineyard Pinot Gris (Oregon)

It's hard to tell the difference between this single-vineyard release and Rex Hill's reserve. It's spicy and fruity, with apple and fig flavors, with good acidity and a dry finish. It feels nice and smooth in the mouth. Both wines are good, in which case, why pay the extra money? —S.H.
