Rijk's 2016 Cape Winemakers Guild CWG Pinotage (Tulbagh)

Winemaker: Pierre Wahl. There's a slight warmth to the nose of this wine, with pronounced aromas of pepper, char and balsamic herbs that sit atop the brambly berry fruits. Tobacco, licorice and touches of cocoa and sweet woodspice add intrigue. The palate is medium in weight and plush in feel, with ripe, brambly berry flavors that are coupled with moderate tannins and a beautiful seam of acidity that provide great overall balance, structure and length to the close. It's enjoyable now, though will continue to mature well through 2030. Lauren Buzzeo
