Rippon 2014 Mature Vine Lake Wanaka Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

Editors' Choice

Blessed with some of the most stunning views in the wine world, this biodynamic winery hugs Lake Wanaka, and this vintage especially shows the maritime influence. The heady nose feels like a wild berry pie cooled on the windowsill by a breeze of salty sea air, wild herbs and hot stones. The baking spice, bramble berry and stalky notes continue onto the palate, wound tightly by grainy tannins and finishing with a streak of minerals and wild herbs. There's more power and austerity here than on the previous vintage, but it's a wine set up for cellaring, and should age gracefully until 2029. Christina Pickard
