Complex and bold, with a deep amber color. This one is 100 proof, and won't let you forget it—the alcohol hits right on the nose, but so does a concentrated deep toffee and coffee-ground fragrance. The flavor hints at sweetness at first, then opens up to oak, caramel and spice. The finish is smooth, with lots of lingering caramel, but also a powerful bite. This is a beautiful example of what an aged rye can be, and it probably would have rated even higher if it weren't so powerfully alcoholic.
