Robert Pecota 1997 Syrah (Monterey County)

Green and vegetal as Monterey reds are wont to be. Just too much beet and barnyard character vying for attention with the plump, juicy fruit. Heavy and oaky on the finish, which ends nicely enough with dark coffee and black pepper. Overall too strange and heavy (14% alcohol) to highly recommend. Michael Schachner
