Roland Grangier 2017 Côte Granits (Saint-Joseph)

Produced from 100% destemmed fruit and aged 18 months in oak (50% new), there's a subtle smokiness here reminiscent of hazelnuts and scorched earth that permeates into crisp-tart blackberry and plum flavors. Overall, it's a juicy, fruit-forward Syrah that welcomes youthful drinking, but firm tannins and zesty acidity should hold it through 2025. Anna Lee C. Iijima
