For an under-$10 wine, this one delivers some oak, healthy black fruit and bright acidity. One poke at the nose reveals some barrel char, which persists onto the fresh, tight and juicy palate. Because it's so forward and bright, nobody will mistake it for flabby; it's really quite the opposite. Michael Schachner
