91pointsRoss Estate 2002 North Ridge Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

Editors' Choice

Ross Estate is only several years old, but winemaker Rod Chapman is a long-time veteran, and his North Ridge Shiraz is a knockout for the price. Dense aromas of fruitcake and spice ease out of the glass, while the flavors follow a similar trajectory—rich and a touch syrupy, with dried-fruit and spice notes that are distinctly Barossa. Finishes with a dusty, layered feel to its tannins, suggesting a drinking window of 2008–2015. Joe Czerwinski
