Rupert & Rothschild 2003 Classique Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon (Western Cape)

Produced on an historic French Huguenot farm by the Rupert family and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, son of the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France, this wine beckons with a blackberry and pepper nose but falls flat on the palate with one-dimensional angularity. The parts feel disparate, though the oak and some earthy tones add some complexity. Susan Kostrzewa
