Ryan Cochrane 2016 Solomon Hills Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley)

Steely on the nose, this always impressive bottling by a San Francisco accountant-turned-winemaker shows delicate aromas of lime blossom, chalk, sea salt, Asian pear and blanched almond. There is a tense grip to the palate and laser-sharp acidity, delivering flavors of lime sorbet and nectarine with a flash of light marshmallow on the deep finish. Matt Kettmann
