Steve Pannell's self-described “house style” Shiraz is a bright, fruity and modern bottling. Red and black berries bounce from the glass, with licorice, vanilla and a soy sauce-like umami character far behind. The palate is as light and juicy as the nose suggests, held firmly in place with chalky tannins. The only downside is a slightly cooked, sour fruit note at the finish, but overall this is an approachable and varietally correct drop. Christina Pickard
