89pointsSacred Hill 2016 Helmsman Red (Hawke's Bay)

This full bodied, tightly wound wine is showing notes of raisiny red currants and plums, mocha, vanilla, graphite and dried green-herbal oak spice. Gritty textured tannins hold tightly to the tongue when tasting, and the fruit gets a touch lost amidst the power. The oak rears up on the finish. Try cellaring until around 2027. Christina Pickard
