San Pedro 2016 1865 Limited Edition Syrah (Elqui Valley)

San Pedro's Elqui Valley Syrahs are always challenging. This version from a rainy El Niño vintage is difficult in many ways. The nose is like tomato soup infused with mint and grass. A stewy, syrupy palate is far from balanced and elegant, while this tastes green and tomatoey, with mint and canned pea notes on the finish. Michael Schachner
