A slightly tradition-bucking blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Viognier by Matthias Pippig, this wine shows black cherry, vanilla, dark loam, crushed rocks and dried thyme on the mineral-laced nose. Strong tannins and acidity frame the sip, where berries, anise and vanilla converge. The tannins need a bit more time to integrate. Matt Kettmann
