Saurwein 2016 Nom Pinot Noir (Western Cape)

There's a light, lean and precise character to this wine. It leads with a focused nose of tart cherry, red currant and strawberry hull fruit, backed by hints of cola spice. The palate is light yet plush, with surprising weight and more ripe fruit tones than the nose suggests, along the lines of cherry and plum flesh. The finish veers to a sweeter impression, almost hinting at cherry-flavored hard candies. Lauren Buzzeo
