Made from ancient vines planted in 1847, this is a luscious, open-knit Shiraz with notes of plush cherry and black currant, dried thyme, mint, dark chocolate and a beetroot and tomato leaf nuance. Oak is present but well tucked. The mouthfeel is opulent but cinched by powerful, herb-flecked tannins. It's a bit woody on the finish, and lacks some character and depth, but should cellar nicely nonetheless. Decant and drink now or hold until 2037. Christina Pickard
