From a combo of bush vines over 100 years old and nearing that, this Grenache starts out reductively, but with aeration opens into an aromatic and characterful bottling. Aromas of fleshy red currant, cherry and wild strawberry are underpinned by licorice and red rose petals. The palate offers a pleasant lift of acidity—a freshness that's almost unexpected—and gives a lovely tang to the fruit. It's all tugged into place by chalky, somewhat drying tannins. A touch of alcohol heat can be felt. Drink now–2030. Christina Pickard
