Schmidt 2017 Reserve Syrah (Applegate Valley)

Despite its seriously dark hue, which is almost black at the center, this wine feels all but weightless on the palate. There are drying tannins and not much else. It's a mystery how a wine with that much color and significant listed alcohol can feel so empty. Paul Gregutt
