Schulz 2008 Fortunati Vineyard Syrah (Oak Knoll District)

This is one of those wines that tastes dramatic and important. It's marked by rich, thick tannins, but they're ripe and smooth, and frame complex flavors of blackberries, black cherries, grilled teriaki beef and black pepper, enriched with smoky cedar. Texturally, it's medium-bodied and velvety, like a Merlot.
