Selby 1999 Syrah (Sonoma County)

Blackberry and tarragon, sour berry and nougat aromas have promise but are marred by volatile acidity expressed as a strong alcohol-acetone element. In the mouth, it is medium-weight and smooth, but has a somewhat hard feel, with tart cherry and leather flavors. Finishes slightly sharp, with edgy tannins that may smooth out with a year or two of aging. It will always be on the lean side.
