Seven Hills 2008 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

Editors' Choice

Penetrating aromatically, spicy and complex, this brings in sharp berry scents, baking chocolate and a streak of herb. It's tight and vertically structured, and once in the mouth it turns a bit hard and unyielding. But it lingers and resonates, improves after being open for several hours, and can be cellared for up to a decade. Paul Gregutt
