89pointsShaw and Smith 2016 M3 Chardonnay (Adelaide Hills)

There's a lot of winemaking going on here, and a little bottle age as well. The nose is rich and toffee-like, swirling with vanilla, ripe pineapple and honeyed nuts. There's a slight oniony reduction still present, too. The palate is less weighty than the nose implies, thanks mainly to bright acidity that helps counteract the fleshy fruit and oak influence. In any case, this is a full-figured style that some will love and others will run from. Christina Pickard
