This is an interesting new brew from Sam Adams, and it certainly falls outside of traditional barleywine profiles. There's a hugely floral component to the nose, along with sweet tropical fruit, burnt sugar and soft sweet toasted wood notes. The mouth is rich and full with a distinct and somewhat surprising sweetness like fresh ripe pineapple, peach and ruby red grapefruit, but the finish offers some warmth and soft astringency to keep it from being too cloying. A love-it-or-hate-it type of beer, but worth a try for sure.
