This vintage of Block 6, the oldest block of vines on this historic winery's property, is still very young but is set up for a long life in the cellar. The nose offers upfront ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit accompanied by floral and fennel notes and earthy, woody undertones. The American oak is also on display here making aromas a little soapy and sweet. The oak influence carries through to the palate along with fruit that feels a tad syrupy, but it's reined in by savory, tightly wound tannins that are all powerful now but will hold the wine together as it ages. Lacks some verve but likely just needs time. Drink 2022–2029.
