Ninquén is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 80% of which is aged in new wood; the U.S. is only allocated 500 six-bottle cases. Numbers aside, this is an excellent wine, firmly structured, with powdery-smooth tannins. Cassis fruit is swathed in toast, earth and nut flavors; the nose offers fragrant berry fruit, coconut and hints of herb. To Hobbs's knowledge, it is the first mountain fruit grown (at 400 meters above the valley floor) in the region.
