Oddly, considering how good the Chardonnay is, this Yarra Valley Shiraz is currently showing a lot of reduction. The funky barnyard aromas do dissipate somewhat after a long time in glass, but they never completely disappear. Sitting first underneath and then beside the funk are notes of red berry, black pepper, stems and humus. The palate feels equally submerged, the tannins astringent and the silky fruit a touch sour. There's plenty of personality here but at the moment it's not shining.
