Mondillo 2018 Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

Delicate, fresh cranberry and cherry fruit open on this elegant Otago Pinot. The bit of bottle age gives a slightly volatile note, the herbs and spices heading into cocktail-bitters territory. A touch of vanillin oak shows, too, but it's well placed. The palate is medium weight with fine, dusty tannins. The fruit gets a little lost here, falling off quickly, but overall this shows much of the character of this unique southern New Zealand region.
