90pointsSimonsig 2016 Redhill Pinotage (Stellenbosch)

Aged for 15 months in predominantly French oak, 60% new, this is pretty woody right now, with loads of sweet oak and cedar that are sitting atop a fruity spine of blackberry and cherry. Hints of fresh tobacco leaf and bergamot tea add additional interest. The palate is bold and filling, with a pronounced spicy character that rides atop the jammy and brambly berry fruit. The fruit intensity, tannic structure and ample acidity is there, so it's poised to further harmonize with time. Drink 2020–2025. Lauren Buzzeo
