Aromas of cedar, bark and vanilla are a bit sharp and high toned on the nose, with a handful of ripe red currants. Flavors of raspberry, cherry and vanilla are bright at first but the hefty tannins, flavored by cedar, tobacco and licorice, muscle in. There is plenty of lapping acidity holding its own. Vanilla, black pepper and charred oak linger impressively on the finish. Drink after 2020 when tannins should settle down. Fiona Adams
