Firm and toasty, this Cabernet, from the Lawrence Vineyard on the Royal Slope, has layers of earth and fungus, graphite and coffee grounds. The fruit is compact and dark, tightly wound and needing plenty of breathing time. But the balance and proportion, and the tannin management, show excellent winemaking skills.
