The most appealing and varietally true among a slate of 2014 reds from Spangler, this is a bona fide steak wine. Though it smells like a lumber yard, that may be part of its appeal, and the thick meaty tannins complement all that new wood. Dark highlights of chocolate and espresso color the fruit, which touches on black cherry. Paul Gregutt
