Spangler 2017 Petite Sirah (Southern Oregon)

There's an appealing sweetness to the black fruits here, though the wine is dense with thick tannins. Bringing that fruit a bit forward helps to balance the palate, which coats the tongue with lightly chalky flavors of charcoal dust. The mix of boysenberries, espresso grounds and charcoal is entirely appropriate to the grape, and along with ample acidity this wine should match well with smoky grilled meats. Paul Gregutt
