Stolpman 2001 Angeli Sangiovese (Santa Ynez Valley)

An offbeat Super-Tuscan style wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese) with lots of interesting things going on. It's very dry, with tannins that are pronounced, but not difficult to negotiate. The complex flavors span the gamut from blackberries and cherries to dried fine herbs, rich tobacco, and mocha. A firm spine of acidity suggests midterm ageability.
