Stolpman 2012 Grenache (Ballard Canyon)

Syrah is the star of this new appellation, but Grernache does mighty fine too, in this case offering aromas of strawberry reduction sauce, black cloves and cardamom. The palate is heavily laced with crushed dark spices, ripe red fruits, strong tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Waiting until 2016–2017 might make this wine even better. Matt Kettmann
