Thacher 2016 Constant Variable Red (Central Coast)

Polished aromas of candied black raspberry, tangy black plum, dried herbs and earthy hints of game show on the nose of this blend of 47% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 14% Mourvèdre and 13% Counoise. There's a strong peppery spice to the palate as well as savory hints of game and tar, but also solid black-fruit flavors, all wrapped in leathery tannins. Matt Kettmann
