90pointsThe Boneline 2016 Barebone Chardonnay (Waipara)

As the name suggests, this is a stripped-back Chardonnay sans much of the winemaking trickery that can easily overwhelm this variety. It also makes for a rather simple wine, because, let's face it, unless grown in exceptional soils, Chardonnay flying solo isn't the most characterful of grapes. All is in harmony, however, in the form of citrus fruit, white blossoms and underlying honeyed nuances. Chalky yet creamy on the palate, and sliced through with crystalline acidity, this toned-down Chard would make a versatile food match. Christina Pickard
