The Infamous Goose 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

There's what feels like a lot of sulfur on the nose to this wine, along with some oniony reductive notes. But underneath lurks pungent gooseberry, black currant, grass and bell pepper aromas. A touch of residual sugar also seems present on the palate, just enough to temper the crisp acidity. There's a bit of textural interest here, too, and a nice tingle of tangy fruit. But overall this wine suffers from heavy-handed winemaking. Christina Pickard
