Sharp, tangy aromas of red currant, pomegranate and underripe blackberry are backed by licorice, cherry wood, clove and vanillin on the nose. The palate is surprisingly fruit-forward in flavors of raspberry, black plums and more pomegranate, while peppery spice whispers of clove and oak. This feels light and juicy but grounded by dusty tannins in a stalemate with the rampant acidity. There is a nice kick of peppery spice to cut through the tangy fruit on the finish. Fiona Adams
