The Winery At Holy Cross Abbey 2017 Merlot (Palisade)

The high-toned nose is sharp and spicy at first but mellows with time in the glass. It carries bouncy plum, cranberry and pomegranate notes with lots of bell pepper. Fresh, bright cherry juice takes the lead and powers straight through the finish, joined by pomegranate and raspberry flavors, with hints of cocoa powder and white pepper. The palate is silky, with a lazy river of acidity and light, powdery tannins. There is a dose of white pepper and vanilla on the finish. Fiona Adams
