Three Rivers 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

This almost pure Cab (just 2% Malbec) is almost midnight black in color. Fragrant with strong barrel scents of toast and char; the fruit has a spicy, citrusy lift to it that keeps the thick tannins from weighing it down. The big tannins and powerful, smoky notes do not overpower the rather delicate fruit; it all works together in a harmonious balance. Paul Gregutt
